For the week, all classes of cattle were steady to moderately lower as were the cattle futures.  Dressed beef continued its retreat from record prices with corn and wheat higher.

Slaughter Cattle: In the South, cattle traded steady at 124.00 with Northern dressed trade at mostly 200.00, 3.00 lower. In the 3 front months, Live Cattle futures closed from 0.47 to 0.62 lower. USDA’s most recent carcass weight data showed weights were 5 lbs. heavier than last week at 906 lbs. and 6 lbs. lighter than a year ago.

Feeder Cattle: National average price for feeder steers @ 151.10, 1.93 lower with trade 1.00 higher to 3.00 lower. In the 3 front months, Feeder Cattle futures closed from 0.62 higher to 3.02 lower.

Stocker Calves: National average price for stocker steers @ 167.08, 1.77 lower with trade 1.00 higher to 4.00 lower.

CME Feeder Cattle Index: 154.60, 0.40 lower than last Friday. 

Boxed Beef Cutouts: Choice cutout 12.75 lower at 314.47 and the Select cutout 13.62 lower at 279.75. The Choice/Select spread at 34.72, 0.87 higher than last week. 

Cutter Cow Cutout: 0.31 lower at 235.23.

Slaughter Cows: Mostly steady to 3.00 lower.

Total red meat production under Federal inspection for the week ending Saturday, September 18, 2021 was estimated at 1073.8 million lbs. according to the U.S. Department of Agriculture's Marketing Service. This was 13.9 percent higher than a week ago and 1.8 percent lower than a year ago.  Cumulative meat production for the year to date was 0.7 percent higher compared to the previous year.

Grain: For the week, corn 0.17 higher @ 5.92 with September futures @ 5.2725, up 0.0975. Wheat 0.30 higher @ 6.77 and the futures @ 7.0875, up 0.2025.
