On April 27, 2026, Elanco Animal Health Incorporated received an Emergency Use Authorization (EUA) from the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) for Negasunt Powder.
This topical treatment is authorized to prevent and treat infestations caused by New World screwworm (NWS) larvae (Cochliomyia hominivorax) in a wide range of animals.
Key Details of the Authorization:
- Target Species: Cattle, swine, goats, sheep, horses, donkeys, mules, and various captive wild or exotic mammals.
- Complementary Action: Simultaneously, the EPA granted a Section 18 Emergency Exemption for Tanidil, another Elanco screwworm treatment, which expires in 2029.
- Purpose: These authorizations allow veterinarians and producers to have treatment options ready if screwworm flies, recently detected just 62 miles from the U.S.-Mexico border, enter the United States.
