For the week, slaughter cattle were 4.00 higher in both the North and the South. Feeder cattle were slightly lower and stocker calves slightly higher. Both Live Cattle futures and Feeder Cattle Futures were higher. Dressed beef cutouts closed the week higher.

USDA’s most recent carcass weight data showed weights averaged 920 lbs., 3 lbs. heavier than last week and 1 lb. lighter than last year.

Total red meat production under Federal inspection for the week ending Saturday, October 22, 2022 was estimated at 1107.4 million lbs. according to the USDA’s Agriculture's Marketing Service. This was 1.6 percent higher than a week ago and 0.4 percent lower than a year ago.  Cumulative meat production for the year to date was 0.5 percent lower compared to the previous year.
Grain: Corn was 0.06 lower @ 7.04 with December futures @ 6.8425, 0.0550 lower. Wheat 0.04 lower at 9.13 and the futures @ 8.5075, down 0.0900.
