While monsoon rains have led to some improvements in the Southwest, drought continues to worsen in the Northwest. A huge swath of Severe Drought (D2) and worse runs from the Northwest across to the Midwest, including Washington, Oregon, Idaho, Montana, Wyoming, the Dakotas, Minnesota, and Iowa. As of July 13, 2021, 38.9% of the U.S. is in drought.
