About Cattle Prices

..
..
Since December of 2014, prices for most classes of cattle have dropped well over 50%...

Whether due to unawareness of current cattle values or unwillingness to accept the reality of today's market, there are cattle listed for sale on The Cattle Range that are priced much higher than their current market value and have little or no chance of selling.

Accordingly, it would be a mistake to use those prices as a guide to price cattle as they likely represent cattle priced too high to sell on today's market, and if the listing is marked SOLD, the posted price may not be the actual selling price.

In an "up market", it is easier to get a top price, and occasionally, a price higher than the current market because some buyers believe prices are going higher.

In a "down market", the opposite holds true. In an attempt to make them bring top dollar, or in many cases, more than they are worth, sellers miss opportunities to sell for substantially more than what the cattle eventually bring.

Regardless of how cattle are marketed, it's unlikely they'll bring more than their current market value.
