ProteinPlus Concentrate Works to Produce Maximum Feed Value from Poor Quality
Hay & Non-traditional Forage...
BalePlus™ Forage
Injection System's ProteinPlus Formula, fed with cellulose (grasses, straw,
stalks, any roughage) contains all the elements necessary to promote the
production of ammonia through ruminant microbial conversion of energy,
proteins and non-protein nitrogen (BalePlus™ formula) and volatile fatty
acids (VTA) from the treated baled foraged..
Further microbial
action converts the VFA and the ammonia to bacterial protein. The result
is that additional usable protein is produced than existed in the participating
materials. The 4 stage bovine rumen is designed to convert feed for optimum
use-particularly protein. Our engineering goal was to design a formula
which promoted maximum efficiency of the bovine digestive system.
Energy to promote
the activity of the bacteria, protozoa and anaerobic fungi in the rumen
is provided by the molasses and what exists in the cellulose (forage).
The remainder of that energy, vitamins and minerals goes directly to feeding
the cellular furnaces, which keep the cows warmer in cold weather and promote
more and better milk production.

| Urea was previously
thought to be only a waste product created during protein metabolism and
destined for secretion (Houpt, 1959). However, researchers have since
discovered that ruminant animals use urea in digestion. Ruminants
use urea for protein synthesis and to trap ammonia. Functional urea
is made in the liver and transferred to the rumen through the blood (Houpt,
1959).
As the urea
enters the rumenal tissue, it comes into contact with urease formed by
bacteria in the epithelium. The urea is hydrolyzed into ammonia and
carbon dioxide. The acidity of the rumen (pH 6-7) attracts the ammonia
and converts it to an amonium ion. This hydrolysis of ammonia increases
the acidity of the rumen and, consequently, causes more ammonia to enter
the rumen (Owens and Zinn, 1988).
Microorganisms
use ammonia as their primary nitrogen source (Allison, 1965). They
can get the ammonia from urea hydrolysis, degradation of both dietary protein
and compounds containing non-protein nitrogen (NPN), or degradation of
microbial crude protein (MCP) (Merchen, 1988; Owens and Zinn, 1988).
Ammonia is either used by the microbes or absorbed by passive diffusion
through the rumen wall and taken to the omasum. The degree of absorption
corresponds positively to the pH and NH 3 concentration of the rumen (Merchen,
1988). |

| Volatile fatty
acids (VFA) produced by microorganisms during fermentation are a principle
source of the carbon needed in metabolism. Microbes make these acids
from glucose broken down from cellulose (Ferguson, 1985). VFA move
continuously from the rumen by absorption. This removal occurs through
the use of a concentration gradient that exists between epithelial cells
and the blood. It is vital for the maintenance of a stable pH in
the rumen. The rate of absorption of VFA increases as the pH of the
epithelial cells facing into the rumen decreases (Merchen, 1988).
The correct
use of BalePlus™ Formula ProteinPlus™ may or may not result in enough
protein production to maintain or increase weight gain in consistently
colder weather or with pregnant or lactating cows. Be certain to keep alternate
sources of supplemental protein, energy, vitamins, minerals and water available
until you are confident in the BalePlus System. To date, ALL BalePlus customers
tell us they are well-satisfied with the performance of our system and
that the are getting savings upwards of 25+% and better weight gain and
reproduction. |
